Yoga And The Pelvic Floor

Yoga and The Pelvic Floor

Proper engagement and stabilization of the pelvic floor helps to create the correct foundation of each movement in the body, yet , did you know studies have shown that 85% of women live with some sort of compromised or overly strained pelvic floor muscles!

Now this disconnection can happen due to numerous reasons such as child birth, mental/emotional stress, heavy lifting, and more. Unfortunately, many women shrug off their symptoms as "normal" due to lack of information and support for these issues.

Common symptoms resulting from a compromised pelvic floor are:

· Low back pain

· Lack of real core engagement

· Hip pain

· Incontinence

· Feeling disconnected from your body’s center

In this 2hr workshop we will begin with anatomy and understanding what the pelvic floor is and how it supports the body, discuss mula bandha the yogic energy lock located at the pelvic floor, and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana, followed by subtle breath work and movements to awaken your understanding of this often-ignored area. The second part of our workshop we will engage in two yoga practices for hypertonic and hypotonic pelvic floors so you can walk away feeling better informed on what your body may need.

Whether you experience any of these conditions or are just plain curious about this region of the body, this workshop is for you! Come join us at Modo Yoga NKY

Your pelvic floor is the base of your core and its function affects your entire body. However, a large percentage of the female population live with compromised core and pelvic floor muscles due to reasons such as childbirth, physical stress, weight gain, and more. What’s worse is that many women don’t even know how to recognize the signs or might even shrug off the symptoms as “I thought it was normal because of having kids!" "I thought I just had to live with it!”.

Common symptoms in compromised core and pelvic floor muscles are:

· Poor posture

· Low back pain

· SI joint and hip pain

· Incontinence

· Other joint problems

· Feeling disconnected from your body’s center

But the fact is that you do not have to endure these symptoms! There are effective techniques to help you connect back to your pelvic floor and core safety, while also freeing yourself for pain and disconnection.

Join us and teacher Hadley Corpus for this 2-hr. workshop, where she will cover:

· The mental and emotional underpinnings of what is contributing to these conditions

· Habitual movement patterns that can result in pelvic floor dysfunction

· Various breath work techniques

· A series of exercises rooted in yoga, Pilates, and physical therapy that benefit the pelvic floor, strengthen the core, and help create functionality and health release
