Yoga and The Pelvic Floor
Proper engagement and stabilization of the pelvic floor helps to create the correct foundation of each movement in the body, yet , did you know studies have shown that 85% of women live with some sort of compromised or overly strained pelvic floor muscles!
Now this disconnection can happen due to numerous reasons such as child birth, mental/emotional stress, heavy lifting, and more. Unfortunately, many women shrug off their symptoms as "normal" due to lack of information and support for these issues.
Common symptoms resulting from a compromised pelvic floor are:
· Low back pain
· Lack of real core engagement
· Hip pain
· Feeling disconnected from your body’s center
In this 2hr workshop we will begin with anatomy and understanding what the pelvic floor is and how it supports the body, discuss mula bandha the yogic energy lock located at the pelvic floor, and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana, followed by subtle breath work and movements to awaken your understanding of this often-ignored area. The second part of our workshop we will engage in two yoga practices for hypertonic and hypotonic pelvic floors so you can walk away feeling better informed on what your body may need.
